William
D. Roach
French
Acadian born and raised in Cheticamp, Nova Scotia. William
is completely self-taught and has been very interested and
involved in art since early childhood. William was
employed in a wide variety of occupations before becoming
a full lime wood carver including carpentry, truck driver,
press operator, forklift operator and many more. For many
years William did his artwork and gave it away. He began
making his living carving full time in 1988. So for the
last 15 years he has been making his living from carving,
painting and painting furniture.
Many
pieces of his work are very colorful and whimsical; all of
his carvings are made of pine and painted. A number of
pieces are commissioned and the rest is left up to his
creative imagination. He has work worldwide, some has gone
as far as Switzerland.
You
can find William at his studio in Cheticamp, Nova Scotia
where his work is shown right here at the Sunset Art
Gallery, owned and operated by his wife Linda Roach. Some
of his work can also be seen at Gallery shop in Halifax at
the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Jennifer’s of Nova
Scotia in Halifax, Waters Edge in Baddeck and They
Lyghtsome Gallery in Antigonish.
